Mr. Harty often consults with and is retained by other law firms all over the country to help with maritime litigation. He has also provided nation-wide presentations and continuing legal education seminars on maritime law, torts and strategies for trials and appellate cases.

Harty is a member of the Boyd-Graves Conference, which is a group of approximately one-hundred attorneys, legislators, and judges in Virginia who make recommendations on changes to state law. Membership in this exclusive group is by invitation only.

Mr. Harty is also a former law clerk for Judge D. Arthur Kelsey on the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Mr. Harty served in the U.S. Armed Forces. He was an Army Infantry Officer and Airborne Ranger, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He is also a 1989 Combat Veteran of Operation Just Cause in Panama and of the Gulf War from 1990-1991.
