Chrysotile Asbestos

Click to Play Video

Approximately 90% of the world production of chrysotile is used in the manufacturing of chrysotile cement, gaskets, packing sheets, pipes and shingles. Chrysotile products can also be found in some textiles, rubber products, caulking, roof sealants and plastics. Around 60 industrialized and developing countries use these products due to their cost-effectiveness and durability.

The asbestos industry claims that chrysotile is a safe form of asbestos. However, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, The World Health Organization, EPA, OSHA and NIOSH consider it a human carcinogen.  Doctors and researchers also emphasize that no level of asbestos exposure is safe. Asbestos exposure has been linked to mesothelioma, lung cancer and pleural abnormalities.
